Have you tested your DNA for genealogy? I know a few people who have, and they have been quite intrigued with the results. I've even heard of families who have traced their ancestors all the way to Africa and consequently recently visited the continent for the first time to meet distant relatives. What an adventure!
Many times, I've thought of purchasing one of the kits like Ancestry or 23AndMe, but what if I start digging and then uncover a long lost family secret that really bothers me? (Yes, I tend to be more paranoid than most folks!) And on the other hand, suppose I discover a great great uncle who has willed me all his riches? I know... slim chance.. but it's a fun idea that I conjure up often!

Our musical play date with Prelude Music of The Woodlands was so much fun! Last week, we hung out with a handful of our readers and their babies/tots/preschoolers, and I’m still smiling about the nice time we had. If you don’t have an all-out music & movement party at your house at least once a week, you gotta check out the classes here! They’re rhythmic and fun and freeing – every bit of what I want each of my days to feel like!
For our Musical Playdate, we started off in Prelude’s Montessori-inspired playroom. It’s laid back, unpretentious, and just the right size for little bodies to develop the skill of playing solo or with friends. The children played with books, blocks, musical instruments, dolls, puzzles, and other playthings while the moms chatted together and made new acquaintances.
Mommies, are you ready to experience something fun and new for the upcoming season? Please join us for a mommy & me playdate, and bond with your child through the power of music! Our readers and their kiddos are invited to come play, sing, and meet WoodlandsMommy.com and Prelude Music Classes on Tuesday, October 22 for a Family Class (birth to age 5) at 10:30am, and a Babies Class (birth to 8 months) at 11:30am. For each session, we'll enjoy complimentary play time in Prelude's Montessori-inspired play area, music, singing, instruments, and mingling! Bring your little one and be ready to have an amazing time!
We've set up the following two hosting times on Tuesday, October 22, 2019 to accommodate our readers:

Are you worried about separation anxiety and starting school? Unlike some other schools, Paddington British School has a unique system which encourages parents to stay with their little ones giving them peace of mind while easing their child into their new environment. You never get a second chance to make their first impression of school a happy and positive experience. Going a step further, Paddington’s unique, one of a kind, child-appealing design was created with children in mind. Their storybook setting is nestled among three acres of trees and gardens in the heart of The Woodlands.
Your child can learn to build! On scheduled Saturdays each month, Home Depot offers FREE workshop for kids to work with Mom or Dad to build their own wooden masterpiece that they can complete in-store and then take home. Workshops are designed for kids ages 5-12, but all ages are welcome. I signed up my 11, 9, and 5 year olds for a recent project building a rocket ship pencil box, and it was a fun first experience. I was initially reluctant to bring the 11-year-old, thinking she'd be far too advanced, but I was wrong! Although most of the kids there seemed younger, I actually felt as though it was an appropriate, on-level independent project for her age, and even still I had to help her out a bit. And I had to help the two younger girls A LOT!
Remember my girls' weekend at Embassy Suites in Hughes Landing last year? Well, the same fun can apply to a family with kids who need a last-minute summer thrill before school starts (that's August 14 for most Woodlands-area public schools). Embassy Suites is situated right here in The Woodlands, and my family LOVES the hotel - it's clean, the suites are spacious, and the lobby is elegant enough for my taste but not pretentious.
Call or visit the Embassy Suites website for the best price, but a preliminary online search for this Friday night pulled up rates as low as $149. This price doesn't include tax, but let me tell you what it DOES include:
