CAMP DESCRIPTION:

Our goal is to instill in children a love and appreciation for nature, science, and the God-given diversities of the world in which we live. Daily guest speakers will share their expertise on these various topics: Simple Machines, Magnets and Electricity, Sound, Color and Light, and Flight

Simple Machines:

When it comes to simple machines, there is no limit to a child’s imagination! Students will gain new ideas about levers, wedges, screws, inclined planes, and pulleys. As our campers use their hands to experiment, they gain confidence and knowledge about simple machines. These experiments help children to be good problem solvers as they determine how simple machines make work easier! And, it is always a treat to see how animals come equipped with their own simple machines.

Magnets and Electricity:

Children are always fascinated by magnets. Truly, there is nothing else like them in the scientific world! There are many experiments that will be done using magnets. Learning also comes through magnet games and scavenger hunts. In the electricity curriculum, campers make a circuit and an electromagnet, pretend to be electrons, and experiment with batteries. Campers "light up" when they see the results of conductivity!

Sound:

Sound vibrations are always fun to make and observe. Campers will perform experiments that teach the principles of sound. Various activities underline the importance of using hearing to determine the completion or direction of sound. Sound strings, Bonko drums, voice recordings, Foley artist experiments, and dancing rice bring about lively interactions!

Color and Light:

Children love to discover the significance of light and color as it relates to living things and the world in which we live. Our campers will experiment with colors, light waves, and the passage of light through objects. As they mix, blend, and isolate colors and light, children learn fascinating lessons! Chromatography and refraction/reflection activities are always a big hit.
