South Library: READ with the Dogs
Saturday, April 13, 2024, 10:00am

READ with the Dogs at South Regional Library in The Woodlands encourages children to practice their reading skills by reading to specially trained therapy dogs. Children who read 5 books to a dog receive a free book. This activity is provided through a partnership with Pets with a Mission.

This program is intended for children who are able to read independently or with minimal help. Children who are not yet reading are invited to enjoy books in the library with their caregiver.

To ensure an enjoyable experience for the children and the dogs, the following rules will be observed:

  • Read with the Dogs is intended to be a one-on-one reading experience between the child and the dog. As such, parents and siblings of readers are asked to sit in the designated area or wait outside of the room. Parents or siblings who are distracting, either because they are making too much noise or because they are interfering with the reading session in some way, may be asked to leave.
  • Children will be allowed to sit with a dog for up to 10 minutes and read as many books to the dog before their turn is over.
  • Children may choose to read a book from the library or bring their own book from home to read.
