The race, a USA Triathlon-sanctioned event, will have two designated start times: 7:30 am for ages 5 to 10 and 8:30 am for ages 11 to 15. The swim will be 100 yards for ages 5-10 and 200 yards for ages 11-15; bike ride will be 2.35 miles for 5-10 and 4.7 miles for ages 11-15; and run will be 1 mile for 5-10 and 2 miles for 11-15.
The event’s presenting sponsor is Village Builders and Drees Custom Homes, J. Patrick Homes, LJA Engineering, The Wellness Connection, Boe Creative, and Crescere Digital are also sponsoring this event. Proceeds from the event will benefit Decker Prairie Elementary School, the Tomball ISD elementary school that children living in Woodtrace attend. Fowlkes Event, best known for putting on the Texas Ten Series and The Woodlands Marathon, is the race management company for the race.
“Woodtrace has a beautiful, natural aesthetic, and the community was intentionally designed for families of all ages who maintain an active lifestyle and embrace outdoor recreation,” said Michael Johnson, Friendswood Development Company Vice President of Land Development. “We want to bring families who may not be familiar with Woodtrace to our community for a great summertime event that takes full advantage of all corners of our 480+ acres, which is why the athlete participants will swim in our Recreational Center pool, bike around the neighborhood, and run on the trails around Lake Woodtrace.”
Lauren Kelly of KPRC Channel 2’s at Houston Life will serve as the race emcee. All participants will receive a race t-shirt and goodie bag, as well as a finisher medal; top female and male finishers in each age category will be presented with awards plaques. The event will conclude with a post-race party featuring prize drawings. Courtesy of Friendswood Development Company, the Smart Drinks Mobile Truck will be on-site serving complimentary natural fruit smoothies and americanos, lattes and cappuccinos to all racers and their families.
Registration is now open and will be limited to the first 300 participants. Entry fee is $55 between now and July 30; it increases to $60 on August 1. To register, please visit: WoodtraceWildernessKidsTri.com.
