When it comes to seasonal apparel for kids, The Children’s Place is a WoodlandsMommy.com Editor's Pick. I've been buying their graphic tees for my kids for over a decade, and while the prices have gone up a dollar or two over the years, it’s still a bargain to get a cute, 100% cotton shirt for fall, Halloween, Thanksgiving, or Christmas, for only about five dollars. (Of course they have shirts for the other seasons too - Easter, Valentine's Day, patriotic days, etc.)
Over the years, the designs and graphics for the shirts just keep getting better, and I admit I'm pleased that they've added more brown-skin representation to the shirts that include human faces, something I rarely saw in stores when I was a kid. My kids like seeing shirts with kids that resemble their own features.
Because Children's Place offers a variety of tees for each occasion, you can find something different for each of your children, although I think it's cutest when you dress the kids alike!
Here’s what you’ll need to know about the graphic tees.
- On average, the prices are $4.99 and up. Sometimes due to a sale, they are a little bit cheaper or a little bit pricier.
- The sizes range from 12/18mos (infants) to 16-XL (pre-teen).
- During warmer months, the offerings are mostly for short sleeve shirts. For cooler months, the tees are mostly long sleeve.
- The colors wash well and are more fade-resistant than some of the graphic tees I've purchased from other bargain stores.
- The tees tend to shrink after a couple of washes! Buy a looser fit or even go up one size.
Occasions for the tees
It's never a bad day to throw on jeans and a t-shirt to simply relax at home. But here are some other ideas:
- Family festival outings
- Holiday photos
- Pumpkin patch visit
- Call Playdates
- Out and about at the mall
- Thanksgiving dinner
- Santa visits
- Friday
- Saturday
- Sunday - LOL, you get the idea.
How to style
There are no rules for styling a t-shirt. But just in case you need a few ideas:
- T-shirts are easy to wear with blue jeans and sneakers!
- For a fall look, pair the tee with a puffer vest.
- Cut off the sleeves. For long sleeve tees, you can cut it off to a short sleeve style or cut the sleeves completely off. Layer with a solid color tee underneath for a different look, or don’t layer it at all.
- Jazz it up by cutting fringes along the bottom. For another look, add beads to the fringes.
- Tie a knot at the lower end of the shirt. It's a cute semi-halter style for girls!
- Tuck the shirt in to accentuate the waist or show-off a cute belt.
