Don’t let the name fool you. Margaritaville is for all ages – from tots to teens and definitely us grown folk!
My family visited Margaritaville Lake Resort on Lake Conroe last month, and my girls are already asking to return to our lovely paradise escape. At only a 45-minute drive from The Woodlands (or 30 minutes if you’re coming up the back way / FM 2978), the resort is a destination my family plans to enjoy several times a year, especially during the summer months.
We had a choice to stay in either a tower suite (one of the rooms in the main hotel building) or one of the cute lakefront cottages. We chose the colorful cottages – because – well, we really couldn’t resist being just a few steps from the lake plus having a “room” that would accommodate all 6 of us, including an upstairs loft that the older girls were happy to hide out in in the evenings. Here’s a look at our well-appointed room that included a patio, coffee bar, a full side fridge, and even a basketful of treats and bottle of champagne upon our arrival. Thank you, Margaritaville!
ACCOMMODATIONS:
My only gripe: I found myself really missing having a hanging bar (or two) in the bathroom! The top of the shower door was too close to the ceiing to adequately hang out our swimwear to dry! Not a dealbreaker though. We certainly managed!
When visiting a resort like this one – especially in the spring and summer months—the pool action is the most important thing, am I right? Lucky us! Jolly Mon Water Park us a huge oasis, with plenty of space to spread out and enjoy a dip in multiple pool areas, each with its own ambiance.
Five swimming pools (including a kiddie pool and infinity pool), two hot tubs, water slides, a lazy river, and a splash pad left us wanting NOTHING! Two of the pools (including one of the largest pools) was heated, which was just right for the freak cold-front-ish weather we experienced during our April stay. And if you decide to just chill poolside, sip ritas, and work on your tan, there’s no shortage of lounge chairs and luxury! Have a look at this:

DINING:
We were particularly impressed with the half a dozen eateries on site – including a large coffee bar that serves Starbuck’s coffee and breakfast. During our stay, we opted for a sit-down dinner at LandShark Bar & Grill (the blackened mahi fish tacos are the best!) the first night and the beautiful License To Chill Café & Bar the second night.
Okay, so pretty much like any other hotel / resort so far, right? Food, pool, sleeping area. Ha! Not so fast! There is so much more to enjoy here!
THE LAKE:
Since Margaritaville is right on Lake Conroe, we decided to rent a pontoon boat at the resort. It was our first ever motorboat rental, and what a blast it was! The boats were luxurious and clean, and a boat operating orientation as well as all the life vests were provided. Other watercraft rental options at the resort included kayaks, pedal boats, and paddleboards.
THE BEACH:
Beach volleyball was a family favorite. Why is it called beach volleyball? Because Margaritaville has its own beautiful beach which evidently is a prime nesting place for ducks in the springtime. We delighted in seeing line after line of duck families during our volleyball playtime. I should mention, it was my family’s first time playing volleyball together, and it was just the most wonderful activity to get us moving and laughing at ourselves and at each other! We kicked off our shoes and relished our time in the sand!
MORE RESORT FUN:
The resort also offers complimentary miniature golf as well as tennis courts. Equipment for both can be checked out at the valet stand. Additionally, if you have a real golfer in your family, you can book your tee time on their friendly 18-hole golf course.
I especially appreciated all the areas to just chill and relax throughout the property - indoors and outdoors. Everywhere we looked, we came upon comfy conversation areas, fire pits, and more. One morning, we bought breakfast and ate it outside under a beautiful hut-like table setting along the lake. Another time, we enjoyed the astroturf lawn and challeneged each other with hula hoops and cornhole.
Just when we thought we had seen it all, we were walking across the property and looked up and saw flashing lights in the main building. Imagine our surprise to find a lovely arcade tucked away on the second floor. Imagine my delight to find Mrs. Pacman! Imagine my teen’s embarrassment to learn how her mama gets “crunk” with this old game from her childhood! Y’all, there were hoops and hollers as I scurried my “man” away from the ghosts and towards the power pellets, and I’m not sure my kids have ever seen me so competitive. Oh yeah, there were many other fun games in the arcade too, but, I mean, when you have Pacman, what else is really necessary?
THE SPA!!
On our day of checkout, I let my crew sleep in while I meandered off to the most luxurious spa I’ve ever visited! Margaritaville’s St. Somewhere Spa is incredible. I greatly enjoyed my 80-minute signature massage, but I’m not exaggerating when I say I enjoyed the actual facilities just as much.
The spa is beautiful, clean, spacious, and serene. The women’s locker room is gorgeous and equipped with all the complimentary toiletries you’ll need – like shampoo, deodorant, feminine products, and even razors. I changed into my spa robe and slippers and then enjoyed my (complimentary) mimosa! There’s also a coffee bar to help yourself!
Throughout the spa, there were plenty of quiet areas for me to just sit and relax both before and after my service, including a relaxation atrium and an outdoor patio. Access to the steam room was included, but I opted out due to lack of time.
GIFT SHOP
I spent more money than I planned to at the gift shop / retail store, and I didn’t even purchase a t-shirt! My purchase was an overpriced bottle of sunscreen, which serves us right for forgetting to bring our own from home. Even still, what a cute shop, don’t you think?
Keep your eyes on the WoodlandsMommy.com website. The resort offers a wonderful itinerary of fun for families during summer break, and we’ll be sure to keep you posted! In the meantime, visit Margaritaville Lake Resort website to book your stay!
