5 Kid & Tween programs worth the drive to the Bush Library!

Have you visited the Barbara Bush library in Spring? It's part of Harris County Public Library System and offers a ton of activities for the community such as storytimes, open mic nights, teen crafts, computer classes, book clubs, puppet shows, and so much more!

Yes, there are several libraries closer for Woodlands-area readers (the South County Library on Lake Robbins Dr is just a few minutes away from home for me), but I don’t mind driving further sometimes to take advantage of a community program that’s awesome and free (and ALL the programs at the library are free).

The Bush Library is located at 6817 Cypresswood Dr in Spring, and they offer several programs that might be worthy of adding to your library rotation. Here are 5 to note:

Treasure Hunters

Treasure Hunters iis offered monthly (sometimes twice a month), typically on Thursdays throughout the school year, and is a great program for homeschool tweens ages 8-12 to learn more about a different country or culture. Past activities have included map coloring, paper-dyeing, food sampling, and more! Sometimes, there’s a special program (like Learn to Dance with Houston Ballet) that introduces your child to something new!

Preschool Pals

Preschool Pals is currently offered on Thursdays at 11:15 am. Your preschooler, ages 3 to 5 years old, will read stories, sing songs, and exercise their creativity with crafts. This is an ideal age for your child to connect with kids his age and for you, mom, to connect with other parents.

Pajama Storytime

Wear your PJ’s to the library? Yes, please! The Bush Library offers Pajama Storytime at least once a month in the evening time, for families of all shapes and sizes. No ages excluded. Stuffies welcome and pajamas encouraged!

Computer Crusaders

We recently discovered this program, and it‘s great for my daughter who is 10 and very familiar with block coding but has no prior knowledge of a specific coding language. The one-hour class is a block of 4 classes with one instructor teaching the children the basics of Python.

Wags & Tales

Wags & Tales is your child’s chance to visit the Bush Library for their special therapy dog-reading sessions. Your child can sit and read a book to a furry friend. Recommended for ages 6 to 12, it’s a great program to help your struggling or shy readers gain confidence.
