Have you heard of the Teal Pumpkin Project? It’s a simple way to make trick-or-treating safer and more inclusive for the 1 in 13 children living with food allergies, and many others impacted by intolerances and other conditions.
I absolutely LOVE this project idea! All you have to do is place a teal pumpkin on your doorstep that signals that, in addition to candy, you offer non-food trinkets and treats that are safe for all trick or treaters.
To make it easy for treat-hunters to find your house, use this link to add your address to the Teal Pumpkin Project Map. There are already a few locations on the map for The Woodlands area, but it would be cool to have hundreds (or thousands even!) of local houses on this map, to make Halloween fun and safe for all the kiddos in our community. So next time you're at Target, Michael's, CVS Pharmacy, or shopping on Amazon, put a teal pumpkin in your cart. (These days, you can find teal pumpkins at most major stores that sell Halloween goods.)
Also, you can visit this link to find free printable signs, flyers, and other resources to post at your home or place of business.
And if you’re wondering what in the world a child could want for Halloween besides food items, here are 10 quick ideas:
- Fun pencils
- Stencils
- Bouncing balls
- Coloring books
- Glow sticks
- Jump ropes
- Stickers and Tattoos
- Mini notepads
- Coins and dollar bills
- Bubbles
I’m so grateful for the mommies of The Woodlands for helping this idea spread throughout our area. Let’s do this!
