Hey Woodlands mommies... It's time to GET EXCITED! The Woodlands is 50 years old this year, and the countdown to the festivities has begun! Below is a look at everything that's happening this week. Please note, some events are private / for media only, but you'll definitely want to mark your calendars for The Day of Giving, the 50th Concert Celebration, The Grand Public Celebration, and the Wildflower Festival. Monday, October 14 - The Kick-off
Community leaders will kick-off the celebratory week with proclamations from state, regional and local officials, as well as a dedication of a time capsule to commemorate the historic milestone. Private event.
Tuesday, October 15 - The Day of Giving
Community service and philanthropy are engrained within the fabric of The Woodlands. Volunteer opportunities and ways to give back to the community are now posted on the 50th Anniversary website at TheWoodlands.com. These efforts are made possible through a partnership with Interfaith of The Woodlands, the first nonprofit organization in our community’s history. Learn more here.
Wednesday, October 16 - The Tree Dedication
Greenspace and environmental stewardship are a critical part of The Woodlands. A beautiful large oak tree of significance will be dedicated at Northshore Park, along with the planting of a tree in each residential village in partnership with the Village Associations. Private event.
Thursday, October 17 - The Mural Unveiling
A new mural along The Woodlands Waterway® will be unveiled, signifying the importance and impact of the arts in our community. Local artist Marlo Saucedo along with Amy Malkan have already started painting the mural which will be unveiled on October 17. Private event.
Friday, October 18 - The 50th Concert Celebration
Presented by Howard Hughes – Lyle Lovett and his Large Band will headline this free event along with Jack Ingram and Hayes Carll, at The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion, one of the top ranked outdoor amphitheaters in the world. Saturday, October 19 (5:00pm - 9:00pm)- The Grand Public Celebration
October 19 marks the actual 50th anniversary date of The Woodlands. A grand public extravaganza, produced by The Woodlands Township, will be held at Northshore Park and Hughes Landing Band Shell. This free, family-friendly event will begin at 5 p.m. and culminate with an innovative high-tech drone and fireworks show, lighting the sky above Lake Woodlands. **Wildflower Festival (12noon - 4:00pm)**
LOCATION: Northshore Park, 2505 Lake Woodlands Drive, The Woodlands
This free, family-friendly community tradition, hosted by The Woodlands Lions Club, will kick off the Grand Public Celebration with the distribution of a variety of free wildflower seeds.
