The Woodlands Children’s Museum offers Fall Workshops from August through December 2023, including new classes and several longtime favorites. Workshops are offered year-round at the museum as part of its mission to create opportunities that educate, empower and excite children and families through play.
This year, the museum is offering a Mini-Milestones series, a baby development workshop for children 3-18 months old. During guided play with a skilled Physical Therapist, parents and caregivers discover engaging techniques for further developing their baby’s movement and fine motor skills. Session 1: Let’s Roll With It!, is designed for children 3-6 months old and will help your baby develop core, neck and arm strength to promote rolling and progress in their rolling skills. Session 2: Get Your Crawl On!, is offered for babies 6 months and older and will focus on encouraging progression through crawling patterns. Session 3: Look, No Hands!, is geared for babies 8 months and older and demonstrates ways to let go of those hands and encourage independent walking!
For children 2 and 3 years old, the Little Picassos workshop returns and presents grown-ups and toddlers with activities that explore art as a learning experience. Using a variety of mediums to create mini masterpieces and stimulate artistic imaginations, families share the “process” of art as a stimulus to engage discovery. The newly added Playing Attention workshop, also for 2 and 3 year-olds, will introduce mindfulness-related concepts such as kindness, awareness of feelings, exploring with all five senses and gratitude. This workshop will promote self-worth, socialization through stories, music and movement, sensory activities, imaginative play and art.
Designed with homeschoolers in mind, the museum is offering a Got Science? workshop for 4 and 5 year-olds. This workshop creates a journey through the science spectrum of biology, chemistry, human anatomy, space and physics. Children will be able to explore physical and chemical properties of different elements, compounds and mixtures. Their Scientifically ARTrageous workshop, for 6 to 8 year-olds, combines the curiosity of science and the beauty of art, allowing children to discover and explore the combination of art processes with science hypotheses and outcomes.
Back by popular demand, the museum is once again offering LEGO® Frenzy Meets Righteous Robotiks for 5 and 6 year-olds and Robotiks and Beyond, creating with technology, for 7-10 year-olds. Both workshops are offered from 1:00pm – 3:00pm.
Returning again this year on December 19th through 21st is the popular holiday workshop, Winter FUNcation, for 4, 5/6 & 7/8 year-olds. Take the worry away about your child getting cabin fever -- come explore some indoor fun with process-based artwork, snack-making, and experiencing all the fun that the museum has to offer!
New, and very exciting to the museum line-up is Studio Art Saturdays, a workshop for 5-10 year-olds, meeting twice a month. Using various materials, this workshop presents a springboard to create a multitude of inspiring art sculptures, masks, self-portraits and more. Using themes such as transparent and opaque, playing with texture, big and little, black and white, exploring with architecture and more, children journey through a sensory process, discovering, collecting and arranging.
As always, museum workshops are presented by experienced educators with a talent for piquing children’s natural curiosity. The activities provided are excellent for homeschool families and, also, as a supplement to the academic school year.
