National Youth Theater will be the first theater in Texas to produce the new musical theater production of Alice: A Wonder-Full New Musical. The musical parallels the theme of Lewis Carroll’s famous story, Alice in Wonderland, the whimsical tale of a girl whose curiosity propels herself into a wild world of imagination, now with a fresh and enthralling approach.
Basically, it has almost nothing to do with the original story, except that she falls down the rabbit hole. We have Alice. We have Wonderland entertainment. We have an alternate world, where she meets all these different characters who are nods and winks to characters you know from the original story.
The show is a fun twist on the story, and keeps the whimsical elements from the original, but adds a whole other level that relates to today’s society. Spread throughout the show are original music numbers borrowing from many rock genres, including pop, blues, and rock ‘n’ roll.
Bright, modern and splashy, this version of the Alice tale connects the strange happenings of Wonderland to her real world as she explores the adolescent frustration of “what am I going to do with my life?”
The Wonderland characters are all here! We have all the memorable characters from Alice in Wonderland. The cast of youth ages 11-19 will leave you laughing and amazed at the young talent on stage.
