Ready for some kitchen magic with fun recipes? Let me start by admitting that the appearance of our challah bread was not perfect. We don't have a bread machine, and the hand-kneading part was a bit tiresome, so we probably didn't knead the dough the full recommended amount of time. But in the end, I LOVED the way the bread tasted, and preparing and braiding the dough was a fun experience for me and my 9-year-old.
We made the Rapunzel Challah to fill our lazy moments on Labor Day. It's a really easy recipe, and as you might guess, the dough needed a couple of hours to rise, so we worked on it and came back to it a couple of times. By evening, we were ready to pop it into the oven and enjoy our bread served with my semi-homemade chili.
The recipe calls for 7 ingredients (with water being one of those ingredients, plus several other kitchen basics like flour, yeast, and salt). It’s refined sugar free (we used honey to add a bit of sweetness). On a scale of 1 to 5, with 5 being the most challenging, I'd give this recipe a difficulty rating of a 1. It was easy peasy!
Last Christmas, Santa brought my daughter the Disney Princess Healthy Treats Cookbook that was on her wish list, and so far we've enjoyed every recipe we've tried. The book includes simple step-by-step instructions for over 50 delicious recipes, with mouth-watering photos of each dish.
If you think "Disney" cookbooks will have recipes that only kids will appreciate (and not sophisticated enough for a grown-up palette), think again! This beautiful cookbook includes savory lunches, sweet desserts, shareable entrees and more, with results that have been pleasing to my entire family of grown-ups and young chefs alike. The book is chock-full of enchanting treats that are meant to be more on the healthy side, and it's a welcome change from some of the other child-friendly books that are full of junk food recipes. In fact, this one is the first official Disney cookbook to showcase healthy cooking.
If you'd like to make your own magic feasts, including this challah bread recipe, I recommend getting your hands on a copy of Disney Princess Healthy Treats Cookbook. On any given day, it runs anywhere from $10.00 to $19.99 on Amazon (here's an affiliate link). Of course, you'll get free shipping with Amazon Prime. CLICK HERE to easily add it to your shopping cart.
Your little one will learn to follow recipes, learn more about healthy cooking, understand what gluten-free, vegan, vegetarian, and other food labels mean, and make delicious treats inspired by all their favorite Disney princesses.
Disney enthusiasts especially will like this book because it includes beautiful food photography, and each recipe is inspired by a Disney princess, such as Snow White Baked Apples and Tiana Gumbo Rolls. Be advised that some of the recipes are a bit more involved (although not complicated), so I do not recommend this book for very young children, unless you plan to do most of the work yourself.
