Spring Cleaning - 10 Ways to Make it FUN!!

spring cleaning woodlandsmommy
Ahh, spring... sunshine and flowers and rainy days! And Spring Cleaning, of course! It's the ideal season for deep-cleaning your home, storing away your winter wardrobe, washing the draperies, dusting the shutters and baseboards, and buying new little whatnots from Home Goods to brighten each room of your humble abode.

Not really feeling the excitement? Here are some ideas to put some spring in your step and make chore time a fun time for you and any family members who wish to help! (As an Amazon Affiliate, this website earns commissions for qualifying purchases.)

1. Jam out.

Cleaning goes by much faster when you’re vibing with some energetic tunes. Turn on music that gets you pumped, and jam out while you work (but not so hard that you don’t get anything done).

Editor’s Tip: Just ask Alexa to play "dance party music" and that might get you going.

2. Use a checklist.

There’s nothing more satisfying than crossing completed items off a list, especially when you’re getting closer to having a clean house. Write out all your tasks before you start, or use our comprehensive Spring Cleaning Checklist for cleaning the entire house. Snag the list here.

3. Invest in luxury/bougie cleaning supplies.

Feel fancy and chic while you freshen up your living space. Check out some of my Editor recommendations: The Tyler Diva Wash laundry detergent is pricey but worth every cent. If you plan to try it, just understand ahead of time that you're likely to get obsessed with it! (I use regular detergent and then add a small amount of this to the load to make my clothes smell heavenly.) I also like these super cute Swedish cleaning cloths for our kitchen. They're reusable, washable (up to 50 washes), biodegradable "paper towels" that are great for wiping down everything. And of course, you’ll want to finish off your cleaning day with a good dusting! Here’s our favorite ostrich feather duster

From Bona hardwood floor spray to leather conditioning wipes, here's a short list of other luxury cleaning supplies that I recommend!

4. Count your steps.

Wear a smart watch or carry your phone in a pocket to track your steps. Cute and colorful belt bags are cheap and great to wear when you want to keep your phone on your person in a hands-free way.

5. Have a virtual party.

Set aside a time and day to clean your home at the same time your besties are cleaning theirs. Keep each other posted throughout the session with phone chats, photos, and a video “walkthrough” at the end. Friends make spring cleaning fun!

6. Plan a sale.

Ooh, la la! Decluttering is exciting when you start finding items that can make you some extra money. An old chair? Extra hangers? A few magazines you forgot you had? You might be surprised how much trash you can turn into cash. (Or plan a Swap Party with girlfriends!)

7. Set a timer.

It’s fun to beat the clock, and you’ll be motivated to work faster. Nothing’s like hustling to put away all your clothes before the timer runs out! If you find it especially challenging to stay on task, try this idea for a better chance at success.

8. Work, then reward time.

Rewards make everything better, including spring tidying! Will you go get a manicure? Dragon Rolls from Sakekawa? Plan a treat for when the cleaning’s over.

9. Listen to a podcast.

Tidying the house is a good time to stream that podcast you never have time for. Cue up an episode on Spotify or Amazon Music, and gain inspiration while you mop the floors or wipe down the cabinets.

10. Rearrange the furniture.

I may be a bit obsessed with rearranging my furniture. It’s nice to try a different living room set-up from time to time. (In fact, it might even make you realize how lovely your original arrangement was!) Feel free to rearrange some things, or bring in a couple of new seasonal décor items to dress up your living quarters.

**BONUS - Bring in some plant life.

Once your home is tidy and fresh, you'll want to make sure it feels like spring by bringing in fresh flowers and plants. When you shop for groceries, pick up a bouquet of daisies at the store. On your next walk through the park, allow the kids to gather wildflowers and bring them home to brighten up the windowsill. I found these cute, modern plant propagation stands on Amazon that are perfect if you have a green thumb!
