Hurray for the three-day weekend! Labor Day is coming up on Monday, September 2, and we can't wait! In case you usually forget about this national holiday, it's always the first Monday of September, and in many ways it signifies the end of summer break (though summer won't officially be over until September 22.

Here are a few celebratory activities you can do with your family BESIDES screen time:

  • Attend the Labor Day Celebration at Waterway Square. There will be children's activities, strolling entertainment, live music, and fireworks! Click here for all the details.

  • Create some fun Labor Day crafts like these paper lanterns that are easy enough for your preschooler, and cute enough to hang with the other festive decorations. Click here to go to the instructions.

  • If you have a police officer as a friend or family member, Labor Day is the perfect time to show them that you appreciate their hard work and understand how difficult their job is. Bake up a batch of chocolate chip cookies, or have the kids construct a homemade card. You can also drop off pre-packaged treats at your local fire station.

  • Host a Labor Day porch party! The summer heat is letting up, and Labor Day is the perfect occasion to start getting back outdoors. Hang patriotic streamers and balloons, and fire up the grill and have friends over for burgers and dogs, music, root beer floats, and games. Make it a potluck and have guests bring their favorite side dishes or desserts.

  • Go for a swim. It's the last official holiday for summer swimming, so pull out the bathing suits and sunscreen, and splash it up! Don't have a pool in the backyard? The Woodlands post-season pools are open from noon to 6pm on Labor Day.

However you intend to celebrate, make it fun and festive! And if you just HAVE to have some screentime, Labor Day is almost synonymous with FOOTBALL, so find a game to watch and get ready to cheer for your team!
