Research shows that excessive fun and relaxation over the summer can result in reading loss. Luckily, there are tons of great programs in our area to motivate kids to read all summer long! Check out some of our favorites!
Montgomery County Library - From May 28 - July 20, children through 12 years of age can participate in virtual summer reading and enjoy online events and digital programs. Sign up online, then earn badges and prizes by logging your books into the new Summer Reading app. This year's theme is "Adventure Begins at Your Library." Visit the WoodlandsMommy.com calendar for special events at the Mitchell, South, and Central Libraries for kids, pre-teens and teens (storytimes, crafts, movies, and more).
Barnes & Noble - Kids in grades 1-6 can receive a free book by reading any 8 books and recording them in the Reading Journal (PDF). Bring the completed Reading Journal to your local B&N store from July 1 and August 31 and choose a FREE BOOK from their selection on the Reading Journal list at the store.
Chuck E. Cheese's - Download a Reading Rewards Chart (they have many different ones to choose from and it is a year-round program), mark the book your child reads each day for two weeks and redeem your chart for 10 free Play Points or tokens with any food purchase. Limited one calendar offer per child per day. Expires 12/31.
Half Price Books - Summer Reading Camp starts June 1! Register to receive reading lists and fun activities to keep your kiddos on their toes, and in the books, all summer long.
Harris County Public Library - Participate June 3 – August 3 for fun programs and activities, and earn cool prizes for reading!
Houston Public Library - "Adventure Begins at Your Library" June 1 - July 31. Earn free books by logging 20 minutes of reading per day, for 5 days or more. Log at least one day of reading each week to win the Weekly Prize Drawing!
