The Benefits of a TCA Chemical Peel - by Darlene Reed

When I talk to my clients about a chemical peel, I tell them my favorite is the TCA Peel known as Trichloroactic Acid. The TCA chemical peel that I use is specifically compounded by a pharmacist.  TCA peels are considered a medium skin depth treatment and can have a variety of benefits with proper post care, including these major four:

Eliminates Fine Wrinkles
Superficial wrinkles and fine lines occur on the skin as a result of sun damage, a process known as photoaging.  Trichloroatic Acid penetrates the skin to mid-level. Therefore, the layers of skin which contain these fine lines slough off after the chemical peel runs its course. The result is fewer of these shallow wrinkles on the skin surface. your social media marketing partner
Use Caution When Treating Your Skin!

Are you considering laser treatment or any skin rejuvenation treatment for yourself? Every year there are many products introduced on the market to improve the skin in different ways, and it’s tempting to run out and experience these miraculous treatments at work! It’s true - the results can be nothing short of amazing, but you should always be cautious of who you allow to touch your face. For example, in laser skin resurfacing or any chemical peel it is imperative for the plastic surgeon and the aesthetician to have a good knowledge of your skin type in order to implement the best treatment and avoid complications. The best person to treat your skin will be well-versed on the color, consistency and nature of your particular skin.

According to Dr. Wilberto G. Cortes of RejuVenus Aesthetics, “Most of the problems that we have today with skin management are that a careful skin analysis was not done before a particular skin treatment was implemented. Either the patient did not receive the proper treatment or the equipment used was not powerful enough to treat the patient condition.”

As a Face & Body Board Certified Plastic Surgeon, Dr. Cortes oversees every aspect of RejuVenus Aesthetics Skin Rejuvenation and Laser Center. He offers the latest techniques in high-end lasers, and non-surgical cosmetic procedures. “There are hundreds of laser on the market but most of them are not effective. In addition, most people don’t have or can’t afford high energy laser because only a qualified physician can use them effectively and a vast knowledge is necessary to avoid complications. In my practice we can treat all skin types and almost all skin problems. ” says Cortes. your social media marketing partner
The Mommy Makeover Transformation

Pregnancy - gotta love it! Most of us will admit that becoming a mom is one of the most wonderful miracles of life. There is always the joy and happiness for the arrival of the new member of the family. But on the other hand, there are also many (many!) changes associated with pregnancy and its often negative impact on a woman's body that leaves something to be desired.

We all know the common after-effects of pregnancy and breast-feeding: saggy breasts, excessive abdominal skin, and lax abdominal muscles leading to a protuberant belly. In addition, there is an increase in body fat as well as in fat distribution, which significantly affects the body shape. A woman's body suffers a significant transformation and, to some extent, she turns into another woman. All of these changes can lead to a change in mood, sadness, and a deep desire to restore her body to the days before pregnancy.

Many moms are opting to transform their body with a Mommy Makeover in an effort to restore their self-confidence and feel sexy again by reversing the negative changes of pregnancy. If you're one of those moms, we'd love to hear about your transformation experience. Please email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. If you're currently on the hunt for the right doctor, get to know Dr. Wilberto Cortes of RejuVenus Aesthetics. The Mommy Makeover provided by RejuVenus Aesthetics is the combination of multiple procedures including breast surgery (augmentation, lift, or reduction) with a tummy tuck and liposuction. Dr. Cortés combines these multiple procedures into one mommy makeover operation to reverse the impact that pregnancy has on the breasts and abdomen. Dr. Cortés gives his thoughts about this exciting new procedure: “The mommy makeover is one of my favorite procedures. It is exciting to transform a woman’s body to its pre-pregnancy stage. Restoring the breasts and abdomen in one procedure really changes a patient’s body. It recreates a deformed look into a new very well-balanced and curvy figure,” which definitely increases a woman’s self-esteem.” your social media marketing partner

Plastic Surgery Best Left to the Experts
Have you noticed? These days, there are medical spas everywhere you go, and the once-taboo topic of “plastic surgery” is now out of the gate and running wildly. The fact is, plastic surgery can do wonders for many people, especially moms. When combined with diet, exercise, and mental and spiritual stability, plastic surgery is considered by many to be the fountain of youth. Without a doubt, it provides a whole range of options to enhance your beauty, self-esteem, and inner peace.
Considering plastic surgery for yourself? Great, but don’t be misguided. Many professionals call themselves cosmetic surgeons without being certified plastic surgeons. Of late, professionals in other areas of expertise, including some primary care doctors, emergency physicians, and other surgical specialties have begun exploiting the field of plastic surgery, performing various cosmetic procedures without being plastic surgery trained. Rule #1 when considering cosmetic surgery (a decision that will ultimately have a tremendous impact in your life): Be aware of your physician’s credentials.

Dr. Wilberto G. Cortes of RejuVenus Aesthetics gives us his opinion on the issue. “The problem is that many of these so called ‘cosmetic doctors’ take a weekend course and all of a sudden believe themselves to be experts in botox, liposuction, laser, facial surgeries, among other procedures.” your social media marketing partner

Don’t Forget to Say Thank You; a Quick Guide to a Perfect Thank-you Note

By now everyone should know that you’re supposed to say ‘thank you.’  And there is no nicer way to say it than with a well-written thank-you not.  Not an email, not a text message, an honest-to-goodness handwritten thank-you note is appropriate for almost any situation.  If you don’t already know how to write one, I’ve got a few tips for you.

The note itself

Keep a stash of thank-you notes handy.  If you have to go out and buy one each time you need one, you’re less likely to do it.  Having notes on-hand makes it easy to jot down a quick – but thoughtful – note of thanks.  You don’t need a full size sheet of paper but a smaller folded card works wonderfully.  You’ll be surprised at how far a note like this will go for your hostess or gift giver.

Social and personal thank-you note

Sending a note to your host or hostess or gift-giver should be done as soon as possible.  Get your note in the mail the next day if you can.  Your note doesn’t have to be poetry.  You just need a few sentences that are meaningful. Thank them for the gift or party, let them know how much you appreciate their thoughtfulness and suggest you get together again soon.  You really only need three or four sentences to get your point across and make a nice impression.  You don’t have to get too detailed or specific.  And you don’t have to go on about the many uses of the gift or the details of the party.  Keep it short and sweet and you’ll do the trick nicely. your social media marketing partner

Two Snaps up for the New Barbie Movie

Two snaps up, yes… But warning, I hardly found Barbie: A Fashion Fairytale  suitable for my five-year-old. When Barbie is kicked off the set of the movie in which she’s starring, her luck only gets worse when her beau, Ken, dumps her over the phone. Barbie spontaneously leaves town to find refuge and consolation with her fashion-designing aunt, Millicent, who owns a fabulous boutique in Paris. Arriving in Paris ready to put her worries behind, Barbie immediately discovers that her aunt’s shop is closing down, as the neighboring boutique has been stealing Millicent’s designs.  In fashion, what’s hot today is swept under the rug tomorrow, and that’s just what’s happened to Aunt Millicent, who is preparing to close her shop doors forever and explore a new passion. But when Barbie teams up with budding designer Alice, the two work together in a rush to save the boutique’s building from being purchased by a proprietor and losing the magic of the legendary fashion “flairies” (fairy-like beings who add dazzling flair to garments) forever. your social media marketing partner
10 Tips for Helping Your Child Learn to Read

Taming the TV Monster for Children Ages 3 - 7

Often summertime finds older kids and teens involved in lots of activities without too much time to be bored. Young children, however, may not have as many options besides the library and an occasional trip to the pool or Pump It Up. Television or video games may become a handy back-up. And while a little of screen entertainment for young children is fine, too much of it can result in increased reliance on screen technologies to feel satisfaction, taking the pleasure out of daily play experiences. The unintended negative consequence becomes children watch more and play less. The American Academy of Pediatrics cautions parents to keep TV viewing for children under the age of eight to one hour or less a day. your social media marketing partner
Is Mammogram the Best Defense to Early Detection?
For years, we were all encouraged to have a baseline mammogram done at age 35 and now they are pushing that to 50 years of age. There seems to be a lot of confusion surrounding when to start screening for breast cancer. But did you know that active cancer cells double in number every 90 days? That means that if you have 2 cells at day 90, you will have over one million in the fifth year and it still won’t be detectable by a mammogram!

At Woodlands Wellness and Cosmetic Center, Dr. Sakina Davis brought thermography to the center to find a safe alternative to mammography. “We were seeing so many of our guests in their 60’s that had never had a mammogram because it was painful or they did not want to risk being exposed to radiation. We had other guests that refused mammograms because they had breast implants and did not want the risk of having them rupture. I knew there had to be something out there tohat was effective”. your social media marketing partner
11 Boredom Buster Ideas for Savvy Moms!

1.       Boredom Buster Jar: At the beginning of the summer, sit down with your family and brainstorm a list of activities that can be done alone or that you can enjoy doing together. Encourage your children to share their own ideas and help you decorate and label a simple jar as the family "Boredom Buster Jar."  They'll feel more involved in the project and more likely to think this is a "neat" idea, if they participate in the creation and idea generation. Next, write everyone's ideas down on slips of paper and as a group decide which ones should go in the jar. Anyone in the family can pull any idea out of the jar to fight the summertime boredom blues. your social media marketing partner
Sex and the City Part 2 - Soundtrack Review

When you think of four fabulous, fashion-forward friends in the Big Apple, or better yet, when you think of Sex and the City, you think fun, wild & crazy, and chic! Well, if you’re expecting the same for the music soundtrack for SATC 2, you might be terribly disappointed.

Before you pick up your own copy of the CD, here’s what NOT to expect:

  • Superior energetic tracks that will move you to your feet
  • A fun CD for Girl’s Night Out

Instead, you’ll get only a mediocre mix of weak-vocal melodies from Cee Lo to Aaron Zigman. Sure, Track One, Alicia Keys’ Rapture, is fun enough, including its rap at the end, but the excitement seems to go downhill after that (with one or two exceptions). Didos’ Everything to Love is likeable, as with everything else she puts out.   It’s your typical “let me sit down and catch my breath, cocktail-sippin’, in-between the action, song.” The problem is, with this CD, there’s little “action” for this “let’s chill out” type of song to be in between.

Here are a few more tracks I found notable, for better or for worse:

Track 5 – Natacha Atlas - Kidda:  What was that?

Track 7 – Liza Minnelli - Single Ladies:  It’s Beyonce's chart-topper beats and lyrics we’ve all grown to love – “put a ring on it!” – but this time it’s carried about by the wrong singer! (Liza Minnelli? Really?)

Track 8 - Ricki Lee – Can’t  Touch This:  This song has energy galore, with a fast beat, strong vocals, and nice lyrics. It’s the only track that might entice you to get out of your seat, wave your hands, or at least nod your head.

Track 9 – Alicia Keys - Empire State of Mind Part II:  Alicia Keys bring strong vocals to this slow, inspirational message about fulfilling your potential and dreams in New York. A five star song that any coming-of-age woman can take seriously!

Track 14 - Sex and the City Men’s Choir – Till There Was You:  Beautiful song, wrong CD. In fact, it put me and the three of my girls to sleep. In my house, this’ll be the song of choice for bedtime from here on out. your social media marketing partner

Please Don't Feed the Ducks

So, what's up with the "Don't feed the ducks" sign? Are these rule-makers just trying to steal our thunder?

If you have ever visited a lake or pond and seen ducks, chances are you have seen people feed them. Unfortunately this is not a good thing to do. You may think you are doing the ducks a favor by offering them bits of bread, potato chips or other types of food but you are not.

When you feed ducks you are likely giving them food that is not nutritious. While ducks seem to love bread, it is not that nutritious and generally just fills them up.

Feeding ducks also makes them dependent on hand-outs and makes them tame. Ducks are wild birds that should not rely on humans to feed them. They also need to learn how to get their own food. When ducks become tame and used to humans they may not be able to protect themselves from predators.

Another reason not to feed ducks is because of the waste that is left behind. Duck droppings can contain bacteria that is not healthy for humans. Too much bacteria in the water and on the land where the ducks are attracted can be detrimental to your health.

Don't forget, in many areas ducks are suppose to migrate to different areas at different times of the year. If you feed ducks you may be delaying their migration.

Ducks are cute little critters that are fun to watch and great to photograph. Most ducks can fend for themselves. If there are ducks in a pond or lake near you that have always seemed to be there, chances are someone is taking care of them if they can't take care of themselves.

Go ahead and watch the ducks, but remember, it's not a good idea to feed them. your social media marketing partner
Ask the Experts: Thumbsucking
Are thumbsucking and pacifier habits harmful for a child's teeth? Thumb and pacifier sucking habits will generally only become a problem if they go on for a very long period of time. Most children stop these habits on their own, but if they are still sucking their thumbs or fingers past the age of three, a mouth appliance may be recommended by your pediatric dentist. your social media marketing partner
