Fun Workshops at the Woodlands Children's Museum

Enrollment is underway for fall workshops at The Woodlands Children’s Museum. There are a variety of offerings that explore a range of subjects – from art and dance to science and culture – all for children ages 2 to 10.

For toddlers ages 2 and 3, the museum offers Early Childhood Explorations. Children must attend with an adult. These magical classes introduce children to basic social skills and prepare them for pre-school. Parents also may sign their toddlers up for Happy Feet workshops on Thursdays, which offer exposure to dance and movement, or Little Picassos on Wednesdays, which explores beginning artistic processes.

KindeReady workshops, designed for children ages 4 and 5, provide captivating learning games and activities that build reading skills, number recognition, fine motor skills and creative self-expression, with each week featuring a new theme built around a favorite storybook.

Alley Theatre Invites Audiences to Shakespeare@400

This month, the Alley Theatre hosts Shakespeare@400 a variety of educational and patron-engaging events, centered around the Alley’s production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream beginning previews October 7, and opening October 12.

The Alley celebrates 400 years of Shakespeare - rich with history and filled with the Bard’s iconic language - with Shakespeare@400. Shakespeare@400 activities are aimed towards introducing Shakespeare’s text to new audiences and also sharing the Alley’s own rich history with Shakespeare through costumes, artifacts and props on display.

The Alley invites families to attend the Shakespeare Saturday beginning on October 15. Shakespeare Saturdays are free and open to the public and will include a “ Start Up Shakespeare” pre-show workshop starting at 1:00 p.m. in the Louisiana Room.  During this workshop, families are invited to experience the art behind Shakespeare's play in a special gallery designed to engage parents and students (ages 12-17) before the show. Families will then explore the major conflicts and themes in A Midsummer Night’s Dream, with an activity guided by Alley teaching artists.

CycleBar indoor cycling coming to The Woodlands

Pretty soon, you’ll be able to burn more calories in less time when CycleBar opens next month at Village Green Shopping Center in Creekside Park. A 50-minute class can burn 400-500 calories, meaning you could use your lunch break to burn off your breakfast, or spend Happy Hour burning off your lunch.

But you won’t get such good results everywhere. Why? CycleBar’s premium equipment gives riders a more efficient workout than some other indoor cycling studios.

“We provide the clip-in cycling shoes that make the rider more efficient in their pedal stroke,” said Curt Buttiker, proprietor of the CycleBar The Woodlands franchise. “A more efficient stroke generates more power, which means more calories burned. Plus, unlike some other bikes, a CycleBar ride includes upper body work, requiring more muscles to be used and increasing the calorie burn.”
