Alley Theatre www.alleytheatre.org

Take a backstage tour of the 75,000 square foot Alley Theatre. Walk through the dressing rooms, the Alley Center for Theatre Production, and stages. Learn about what goes into creating a stage production.

 

Baffler Art Museum http://www.class.uh.edu/blaffer/

Located on the University of Houston campus, Blaffer Art Museum offers free guided tours to groups of at least 10 of its contemporary arts collection. Tours are led by advanced undergraduate and graduate students.

 

Contemporary Arts Museum Houston www.camh.org

Families can stop by the front desk and pick up an Art Pack, which has activities for children. For a more in-depth experience, schedule a free guided tour at least ten days in advance of your visit.   Make sure to ask about the age-appropriateness of the current exhibits before visiting. 

 

Crighton Theater  http://www.crightontheatre.org/

Built in 1934 in Conroe, this historically significant theatre offers a variety of quality productions throughout the year, including Children’s Theater.

 

Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion http://www.woodlandscenter.org

Enjoy all of the performing arts events with free mezzanine and lawn seating. Pavilion Partners offer free activities before the performances, including arts and crafts and an instrument petting zoo.

 Children, ages 2 and up, will enjoy the Houston Ballet’s more family-friendly story ballet performances. Purchase discounted tickets for groups of 10 or more.

The HCCC is dedicated to educating the public on the history and process of crafting. Follow along during a docent-led tour to talk with the Artist-in-Residence, see the Craft Garden, and visit the current exhibits. Tours are free, but donations are accepted.

 

Houston Symphony www.houstonsymphony.org

Children, ages 6 and up, are welcome to attend any of the Houston Symphony performances.   For the entire family, including infants, the Symphony offers the Weatherford Family Concerts performances. Purchase discounted tickets for groups of 10 or more. 

 

Lawndale Art Center www.lawndaleartcenter.org

A contemporary arts museum in the Museum District, Lawndale’s facilities include an outdoor sculpture garden, four galleries, and three artist studios. Explore on your own or schedule a free 45-minute guided group tour.

 

The Menil Collection www.menil.org

Visit any of the six facilities: The Menil Collection, Rothko Chapel, Cy Twombly Gallery, Menil Bookstore, Byzantine Fresco Chapel Museum, and the Dan Flavin Installation at Richmond Hall. Also, take time to appreciate the outdoor sculptures tastefully situated throughout the grounds. Self-guided tours only. 

 

Miller Outdoor Theater http://milleroutdoortheatre.com/

The Miller Outdoor Theater offers a variety of free high quality theatrical and musical performances for children of all ages and their parents, too. Performances are scheduled during the week and on Saturdays and begin at 11:00 a.m.

Visit the three museums housed in the Morris Cultural Arts Center located on Houston Baptist University’s campus: The Dunham Bible Museum, the Museum of American Architecture and Decorative Arts, and the Museum of Southern History.

As a family-friendly art museum, MFAH offers a variety of options and activities to help make the art appreciation experience more meaningful and enjoyable for children. It is worth it to explore the website’s Education link, both before and after your visit, to really get the most out of what MFAH has to offer.   

 

Rice Gallery www.ricegallery.org

Student tours are welcome at the gallery and are arranged according to the group’s needs.   Families on self-guided tours can watch a video on the Artist in Residence and receive free educational materials to enhance the learning experience. 

 

The Pearl Fincher Museum of Fine Arts www.pearlmfa.org

The Pearl encourages a love of art and culture with an array of family-friendly programs and workshops. Stop by for self-guided or docent-led tours, but call ahead for a docent-led tour of 10 or more.
